In 2022, I took my nail painting hobby outside of the bedroom and pursued a Diploma in Professional Nail Technology. After graduating, I launched Neko Nail Co. (still from my bedroom, though), a private nail studio providing cool nails for even cooler cats.
Brand Identity
The name Neko Nail Co. is a play on words and is inspired by the bold nail artists of Japan and Korea (neko means cat in Japanese) and, of course, my love for cats. Just like those spirited creatures, Neko Nail Co. is playful, whimsical, and a little bit wacky. I wanted the brand and visual identity to reflect the playful and design-forward nail designs, through bold colours, simple but graphic visuals, and organic design elements.
Logo and Typography
For the brand’s logo, I went with round and bubbly hand-drawn lettering to reflect the brand’s playful and “do-it-yourself” personality. I sketched out the initial logo design on paper and digitised it in Adobe Illustrator. I eventually also evolved the logo design into a custom Neko typeface.
